thanks for the tags eh! my pecious people! hmm im back! i...spent the weekend in tioman! whee hee.. saturdae,sundae,mondae,tues. thank God for national dae, and holiday today!!
hmm, i still cant write much.
tioman was fantabulous although im getting quite bored of the place..
rocks weathered there are amazing! mostly either by subaerial processes such as repeated wetting and drying, or saltation. or wind erosion or surface run off maybe even insolation weathering. a lot of rocks there, are weathered away by exfoliation and the expansion of salt crystals, causing it to break away. dunno if hydrolysis occurs[guess so too]. on to chemical weathering, pseudo limestone weathering also seems to occur in the granite rocks. plus biological weathering! where plant roots force the rock apart or the sap causes chelation-there were plants growing on the rocks.also not forgetting the processes of wave erosion. there were lil holes within the rocks itself. dunno if tt's honeycomb weathering the books were talking about.
ok la. the above self diagnosis of rock conditions and afflictions may hold lil truth. i just got excited abt what i studied in sch tt's all. what's said in lecture notes actually apply real life!
as we were out fishing in the boat, as i had no interest in fishing, i was just holding the handline for the sake of holding it, not expecting any fish, diverting all my attention, staring at the waves going up and down, up and down--crests and troughs..crests and troughs. look at the wavelength. and tried to determine whether they were sea waves or swell waves. and since they occured in the offshore region, i decided they were sea waves, with large oscillatory movements, irregular height and spacing.hey what's said in e lecture notes is true ok!
then i looked back to shore, and tioman is really a mountainous island. i mean,i saw mountains so i assume tt. i find geog interesting and all, but i always diagnose and observe things wrongly. this's what i think. then i thot abt..hmm..aspect!! but ya know, all the vegetation on the monntains looked the same to me. the same shade of green. but then. maybe since we were on one side of e island, maybe the other side was affected by e different types of vegetation which i cldnt see. one thing i noticed, was tt, the aspect facing the west side, i mean looking at it from out at sea, in other words, aspect facing my left, tends to have bald patches. dunno why the erosion there. hehe. then there was more cloud cover over the forested areas than out at sea. hmm..or am i getting this wrong? anywae, my reason wld be cos the trees give out oxygen and dew and so the water can evaporate and condense in the sky as clouds. but what about the sea body? also alot of water there what. what abt tt? hmm..
argh. then i also observed land and sea breeze. at night, i noticed the wind blew in from the land!! cos of the different cooling rates, that the warmer air out at sea rises, so the cool air from land rushes in the take e place of e warm air. but, the next day, while standing at the jetty waiting for e ferry, the wind was still blowing from the land. argh! but observations were fun all the same!
snorkeling, i was looking at the many pretty beautiful corals! did you know that corals are only situated up to 20 degrees north and south of the equator? which includes east coast malaysia area=tioman area!!they thrive in warm tropical waters, of temp above 20deg celcius and at water depth less than 50 m.they need clear, sediment free, unpolluted and nutrient rich water to thrive.that's why singapore got nothing. and hmm, three types or coral reefs are barrier, atolls and fringe. but as i snorkelled at coral island, i just saw the corals where they were, under the sea, situated just where they were, and i dunno what kinda reef that was.
and i was quite amazed with the nice wave like sand patterns waves create near the beach..called coastal bars! they are submarine features, which show up where the destructive wave breaks.
let's not forget the refreshing waterfall at paya! that involves hydrology and fluvial processes! although i didnt diagnose anything there. the water there's refreshingly cold. can i suggest cos its from the mountain? oh and for a first, a new experience of flying to tioman by plane! which links to accessibility, and anywae, as i was up in the sky, looking at the fluffy clouds,(cloudcover) i thot, wheehee!! im in the troposphere!!
ok tioman is nice and beautiful and relaxing. although i think iv'e been weaned off the nursery introduction of what clear waters are. i think im ready for mauritius and maldives! only the wallet isnt and doesnt look like it'll ever be. phuket is good too..waters there are better than tioman. aiyah actually no need so much money la on second thots. trengganu..pulau apil is good too i heard. pity i've never been there. see..nature can be friendly to the wallet too :)
an extra holiday a day after national day is really a bonus! today was a well spent day! i had the kindersurprise package!-sth yummy, chocolate and a surprise! ok no la. what i meant was 3 in one day. did a lil work in the morn, then went to aunty ruth's house in e afternoon, swimming in e evening and dinner w frens!! wonderful day.
ok but to bring this to a sorry end, sch starts agn tmr and im a mess again. but nevermind. im still happy from my long weekend :)
